Wooting's 60% with 8 kHz polling, Tikken switches and an FR4 plate

A wired 60% Hall effect keyboard with Lekker Tikken Medium switches, true 8 kHz polling, an FR4 plate and a friction-fit mount, in ABS or aluminium. Reviewers praise the typing feel and sound, and note a slight ping on larger keys.

Hall effect 8000Hz Rapid Trigger Lekker Tikken 60% Split spacebar option

Our take, based on research

A refined competitive 60% that The Verge, PC Gamer and WIRED all describe as a clear step up from the first 60HE. Choose it for 8 kHz polling and the improved sound; pick a larger or wireless board if you need dedicated arrows or no cable.

Overview

Wooting's page presents the 60HE v2 as a reinvention of its original 60% Hall effect board. It has a more powerful chip with true 8 kHz polling (switched on through Tachyon mode in Wootility), Lekker Tikken Medium switches with full 4 mm travel and a closed bottom, an FR4 switch plate, a Poron foam sandwich and a friction-fit pad that holds the PCB without screws. The case is ABS (606 g) or aluminium (945 g), 305 x 115 mm with a 28.6 mm front height including an OEM keycap. A split-spacebar layout is optional, the stabilizers are screw-in, the cable is 2 m USB-C, and the warranty is four years excluding the LEDs.

The Verge called it a solid upgrade to the original 60HE and looked at the aluminium case. It said the stem wobble of the original switches is greatly improved, but that the Tikken's longer spring makes it feel a little heavier than the Geon Raw switches the reviewer had been using, and that it moved back to those for sound and feel. PC Gamer called it Wooting's best gaming keyboard to date and an excellent experience for gaming or typing: it liked the weighty yet responsive keypress and found less wobble than the 60HE's Lekker L60 switches. Its one complaint was a slight ping on some larger keys, mostly the right half of the split spacebar. WIRED said the v2 takes the already excellent first version and improves the typing experience with better materials and a new mounting method. It noted that putting arrow keys on Mod Tap suits it but only supports quick taps and adds slight latency, and it did not test the plastic version.

The layout is a 60% without a function row or dedicated arrow keys, and the board is wired only.

Pros & Cons

Strengths
  • True 8 kHz polling and scanning with about 0.125 ms input speed in Tachyon mode (Wooting)
  • Rapid Trigger and per-key actuation from 0.1 mm, with four onboard profiles saved in the keyboard (Wooting)
  • PC Gamer found the typing feel excellent, with less switch wobble than the 60HE's L60 switches
  • ABS (606 g) or aluminium (945 g) case, with silicone, EPDM or no bottom dampening on the aluminium version (Wooting, WIRED)
  • Optional split spacebar adds an extra programmable key for the left thumb (PC Gamer, WIRED)
  • Four-year warranty, excluding the LEDs (Wooting)
What Could Be Better
  • Wired only
  • A 60% layout with no function row or dedicated arrows; arrows via Mod Tap add slight latency (WIRED)
  • PC Gamer noticed a slight ping on some larger keys, mostly the right-side spacebar half
  • The Verge found the Tikken switch's longer spring a little heavier than the Geon Raw switches it normally uses
  • Uses Wooting's own Lekker Hall effect switches rather than standard MX switches

Maybe Not For
  • Anyone who wants a dedicated function row and arrow keys
  • Wireless users
  • People who want to keep using standard MX-style switches
