Das Keyboard's full-size with an aluminum top, volume knob and USB hub

A wired full-size board with Cherry MX Brown or Blue switches, an anodized aluminum top, a volume knob and a two-port USB 3.0 hub. Reviewers praise the build and knob; stabilizer rattle and laser-etched ABS keycaps are the usual criticisms.

Our take, based on research

A sturdy office full-size whose build, knob and hub earn GoMK and PC Gamer's praise. Expect to lube the stabilizers and consider replacement keycaps; skip it for wireless, macros or hot-swap.

Overview

Das Keyboard's page lists the 4 Professional at 18 x 6.8 x 0.80 inches and 2.9 lb (about 457 x 173 x 20 mm and 1.3 kg), with a 6.5 ft USB-A cable, NKRO over USB and laser-etched key inscriptions. It has an anodized aluminum top panel, dedicated media controls with an oversized volume knob and a two-port USB 3.0 hub. Das's page describes Cherry MX2A gold-contact switches in Brown or Blue and notes that standard Cherry MX-stem keycap sets will fit.

GoMK called it an office workhorse, noting nonexistent creak and flex thanks to a 2 mm aluminum top, an ABS chassis and thirteen screws holding the halves together, and loved the soft-touch aluminum knob. Its criticisms: the stabilizers use Costar-style bars that were not lubed and rattled a lot, the keycaps are thin ABS with raised laser-foamed legends, and no keycap puller is included. PC Gamer, reviewing the fourth generation, liked the sand-blasted aluminum plate and the volume knob, called the Cherry MX typing fantastic, and noted that the left Shift squeaked slightly, that laser-etched legends stain over time and that the missing macros point the board at typists rather than gamers, adding that most users can do without a backlight.

There is no hot-swap and no software, so the keyboard is a fixed plain full-size.
