Leopold's full-size Cherry MX board with a sound-absorbing pad

A wired full-size board with Cherry MX switches, opaque double-shot PBT keycaps and Leopold's sound-absorbing pad. Tech Critter, testing a Silent Red unit, loved its quiet typing feel; mini-USB and a single kickstand angle were its complaints.

Our take, based on research

A quiet-leaning, no-frills full-size that Tech Critter, the one review of this exact model found, praised for its silence and build. Choose it for a plain finished board; skip it if you want hot-swap, wireless or USB-C.

Overview

The FC900R PD is Leopold's 104-key full-size board. Leopold's own product page lists the grey/blue version, but shows its specification sheet as images, so the details here come from reviews. Tech Critter, whose review unit had Cherry MX Silent Reds with the blue/grey keycap set, describes a heavy board with a metal plate inside a thick plastic case that wraps around the keyboard, rubber feet and one kickstand angle, a USB Mini-B port with cable routing channels, DIP switches on the back that can swap Left Ctrl and Caps Lock, and padding on the spacebar. It also found a PS/2 converter in the box, and opaque, thick double-shot PBT keycaps with no backlight. Leopold sells the board with a range of Cherry MX switches.

Tech Critter said the combination of the case, the spacebar padding and the Silent Red switches gave great silence with no high-pitched ping, called the board a no-frills way to get a quiet mechanical keyboard that needs no extra investment. Its main complaint was the mini-USB port. Tom's Guide reviewed the FC750R PD, the tenkeyless version of this board, and praised its build and typing feel; those findings apply to this model only as a sibling.

There is no RGB, software or hot-swap, so switches are fixed at purchase.
