The Mineral 96%

The 98-key Mineral: a tri-mode aluminum compact full-size with a curved CNC side frame, PVD back weight, gasket mount and VIA.

96% VIA Aluminum Quick release

Our take, based on research

A styled, heavy numpad board that competes with the M2 V5 VIA. Everything here is the maker's and Akko's own information.

Overview

Mineral 02 is the 1800-compact (98-key) Mineral. MonsGeek lists a CNC aluminum case with a curved side profile, gasket mount, ball-catch rapid disassembly, tri-mode connectivity (Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4GHz, USB-C), an 8,000 mAh battery, 5-pin hot-swap sockets and VIA with source code. Akko's series guide adds the PVD back weight and south-facing RGB. The page highlights FR4 as the plate that balances stiffness and sound, and notes that its sound test was recorded in stock configuration.

Akko's guide says the Mineral and Gem share the same mechanical foundation and performance, with the curved CNC frame and PVD back weight setting the Mineral apart, and it positions the Mineral around endurance and comfort. No independent review was found.

It is the more styled counterpart to the Gem 02 and is a different design from the M2 V5 VIA, which has a flat case and piano-key accents.

Pros & Cons

Strengths
  • Curved CNC aluminum case with a PVD back weight (maker and Akko guide)
  • 98 keys with a numpad, gasket mount and ball-catch rapid disassembly
  • Tri-mode with an 8,000 mAh battery and VIA
  • 5-pin hot-swap sockets
  • Same platform as the Gem 02 with extra case design (Akko)
What Could Be Better
  • No independent review found
  • Overlaps with the M2 V5 VIA in features
  • Sold as a kit unless an assembled colorway is chosen, so switches and keycaps may cost extra
  • Heavy desk board
  • Sound test supplied by the maker only
