Wired 65% Alice layout with a steel plate and tray mount

A wired split-style Alice 65% in plastic with a steel plate and tray mount. Layout adaptation is the main issue; evidence comes from Keychron's specs and Alice-layout reviews of siblings.

Alice layout Wired Hot-swap QMK/VIA Knob

Our take, based on research

A wired Alice 65% for people who want the ergonomic angle in a plastic, hot-swap board. Evidence is mostly from siblings; the main buying question is whether you will adapt to the layout, so check the V8 Max reviews and consider that wireless is available there.

Overview

The V8 is the 65% Alice-layout board in the original V line. Keychron's spec page lists an ABS plastic case with a tray mount and steel plate, hot-swap sockets, screw-in stabilizers, south-facing RGB, K Pro switches and double-shot OSA PBT keycaps, with a knob. It is wired (USB-C, 1000Hz), runs QMK with the Launcher web app, and Keychron lists 945 g and 359.55 x 138 mm.

It is the smaller sibling of the V10 in the V line's two Alice layouts, which Expert Reviews noted when it described the series. Alice splits the keys into two angled halves, like old ergonomic Microsoft boards. Clements, reviewing the V10, reached about 92 WPM at 99% accuracy within minutes but, after a month, still missed standard arrow and page keys, so check the arrow cluster before you commit. Tom's Guide reviewed the later V8 Max and said the layout takes real adaptation but is more comfortable once learned.

This entry has weak evidence: no review of the wired V8 itself was found, so the layout notes come from the V10 and V8 Max reviews, and the build notes come from Keychron's specs.

Pros & Cons

Strengths
  • Alice layout angles the two halves for a more natural wrist position (as Tom's Guide describes for the V8 Max)
  • Steel plate and tray mount give a firm feel
  • Hot-swap sockets, screw-in stabilizers and QMK with the Launcher web app
  • Programmable knob
  • Includes both Mac and Windows keycaps in the assembled version
  • 945 g (Keychron's figure) and wired, so there is no battery to manage
What Could Be Better
  • Wired only; the V8 Max is the wireless version
  • Alice layout needs an adaptation period (Tom's Guide on the V8 Max, Clements on the V10)
  • The 65% layout with a split B and double spacebar changes where some keys sit (Clements on the V10)
  • Tray mount and steel plate leave little flex
  • No review of the V8 itself was found
