Wireless 96% with a gasket mount, PC plate and knob

A tri-mode 96% with a gasket mount, PC plate and knob. TechGearLab rated it highly for convenience but found the tall keys, numpad and loudness less ideal.

96% layout Tri-mode Hot-swap QMK/VIA Knob

Our take, based on research

A convenient wireless 96% that TechGearLab picked as its favorite wireless mechanical board, with the tall keys and loudness as the main caveats. The 2025 chatter reports are the reason to buy from a recent batch. For better battery life and 8000Hz, look at the V5 Ultra 8K.

Overview

The V5 Max is the wireless version of the 96% V5. Keychron's spec page lists an ABS plastic case with a gasket mount and PC plate, Gateron Jupiter hot-swap switches, double-shot OSA PBT keycaps, 2.4GHz and wired at 1000Hz (Bluetooth 5.1 at 90Hz), QMK with the Launcher web app, a knob, and a 4000 mAh battery rated up to 190 hours with the backlight off. Keychron lists 925 g and 391.5 x 148.7 mm.

TechGearLab used the Banana tactile version and said it was a fun, satisfying typing experience with a crisp bump, but its testers recorded lower-than-average typing speeds than other wireless boards. It described the tall, curved OSA keycaps as only middle-of-the-road for comfort and advised a palm rest to avoid wrist strain, and it found the numpad awkward because of a small 0 key. It measured 47 dB while typing, described a creamy sound that could be loud in a quiet office, and praised the convenience of a volume knob and wireless options. Overall it picked the V5 Max as its favorite wireless mechanical keyboard.

As with the other V Max boards, TechPowerUp reported double-press and chatter complaints in July 2025, which Keychron attributed to warped plates and said it had corrected at the production level.

Pros & Cons

Strengths

  • Tri-mode: 2.4GHz and wired at 1000Hz, Bluetooth 5.1
  • TechGearLab praised the convenience of the wireless options and the volume knob
  • Keychron rates the 4000 mAh battery at up to 190 hours with the backlight off
  • QMK with the Launcher web app and hot-swap sockets
  • 925 g (Keychron's figure), lighter than the wired V5 8K
What Could Be Better
  • Tall keys: TechGearLab advised a palm rest and recorded below-average typing speeds
  • The numpad has a small 0 key (TechGearLab)
  • Fairly loud, 47 dB in TechGearLab's measurement
  • Max-series double-press and chatter reports led to a Keychron statement in July 2025 (TechPowerUp)
