Wired 96% with 8000Hz polling, a steel plate and a knob

A wired 96% with a numpad, knob, steel plate, tray mount and 8000Hz polling. No review of this exact model turned up; evidence is Keychron's specs and sibling reviews.

96% layout Wired Hot-swap QMK/VIA Knob

Our take, based on research

A wired 96% with 8000Hz polling and a firm tray-mount feel. Evidence is limited to Keychron's specs and sibling reviews, so look for owner reports. The V5 Max or V5 Ultra 8K are the options if you want wireless.

Overview

The V5 8K is the wired, high-polling update of the 96% V5. Keychron's spec page lists a plastic case with a tray mount and steel plate, Keychron Super hot-swap switches (Red, Brown or Banana), OSA double-shot PBT keycaps, screw-in PCB stabilizers, south-facing RGB, 8000Hz polling over USB-C, a knob, and QMK with the Launcher web app. Keychron lists 1080 g and 142.3 x 388.87 mm.

This entry has weak evidence. No independent review of the V5 8K itself could be opened. The V1 8K review from Tom's Guide covers the same 8K platform in a 75% gasket-mount body, so it is a loose guide to the Super switches and the Launcher, not to this tray-mount build. Peter Mortensen's write-up of the original V5 is the best guide to the layout: he found the 96% numpad squeezes out dedicated PgUp, PgDn and context-menu keys, and that the south-facing LEDs bleed bright light at higher brightness.

If you want a 96% with wireless, Keychron's V5 Max and V5 Ultra 8K cover that; this model is for people who want 8000Hz over a cable and a stiffer tray-mount feel.

Pros & Cons

Strengths
  • 8000Hz polling over wired USB-C, with QMK and the Launcher web app
  • Steel plate and tray mount for a firm feel (Keychron's spec page)
  • 96% layout with a numpad, arrows and a knob
  • Hot-swap sockets for Keychron Super or other 3-pin and 5-pin switches
  • Screw-in PCB stabilizers
  • OSA double-shot PBT keycaps with Mac and Windows legends
What Could Be Better
  • Wired only
  • 1080 g (Keychron's figure) is heavy and a tray mount with a steel plate has little flex
  • The 96% layout drops dedicated PgUp, PgDn and context-menu keys (Mortensen, on the original V5)
  • South-facing LEDs can glare at higher brightness (Mortensen, on the original V5)
  • No independent review of this model was found
