Full-size 8 kHz wireless Q with 660-hour battery

A full-size aluminum Q with 8000 Hz wireless, Silk POM switches, ZMK firmware and a 660-hour battery rating. Tom's Hardware found it solid but the switches heavy and the keycaps awkward.

Full layout Tri-mode Hot-swap Knob

Our take, based on research

A capable, solid wireless full-size board with an exceptional battery rating, held back by heavy switches and awkward stock keycaps according to its main reviewer.

Overview

The Q6 Ultra 8K is the full-size flagship of Keychron's Q Ultra 8K series. Keychron lists 8000 Hz polling, 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth and wired modes, Keychron Silk POM switches in Brown, Red or Banana, a CNC aluminum case with gasket mount and PC plate, KSA double-shot PBT keycaps, a knob, 137 x 446 mm, 2,238 g and a 4000 mAh battery rated up to 660 hours. It runs ZMK firmware configured in the Keychron Launcher.

Tom's Hardware reviewed it and called the 660-hour rating at 8 kHz impressive, though perhaps not all that necessary on a desk-bound board. It credited ZMK's wireless efficiency and a super-solid build, but flagged heavy, less tactile switches, high-profile keycaps with small tops and a large, heavy body, and said typists may want to swap switches and keycaps.

It is a niche board for full-size users who want 8 kHz without a cable.

Pros & Cons

Strengths
  • 8000 Hz polling with a rated 660 hours of battery (Keychron, Tom's Hardware)
  • Super-solid build; full aluminum body with double-shot PBT keycaps (Tom's Hardware)
  • Full-size layout with number pad, per Keychron's spec
  • ZMK firmware with the Keychron Launcher web app
  • Hot-swap sockets for switch changes
What Could Be Better
  • Tom's Hardware found the switches heavy and not very tactile
  • High-profile keycaps with small tops (Tom's Hardware)
  • Large and heavy at about 2.2 kg
  • Runs ZMK rather than QMK/VIA
  • Tom's Hardware doubted the 660-hour rating matters on a large desk board

Who Is This For?

Perfect For
  • Full-size users who want wireless 8 kHz
  • Players who dislike charging
  • Buyers who plan to swap switches and keycaps
Maybe Not For
