Tri-mode 96% Q with number pad and muted sound

A 2.2 kg aluminum 96% with 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth and wired modes, double gasket and a number pad. Reviewers like the soft, muted sound; weight and cost are the caveats.

96% layout Tri-mode Hot-swap QMK/VIA Knob

Our take, based on research

The most complete 96% in the Q line and well liked in its reviews, with price, weight and stabilizer tuning as the caveats.

Overview

The Q5 Max is the tri-mode 96% Q: CNC aluminum with a PC plate, gasket mount, hot-swap sockets, QMK/VIA, a knob, 2.4 GHz at 1000 Hz, Bluetooth for three devices and wired USB-C. Keychron lists Gateron Jupiter Red, Brown or Banana, KSA double-shot PBT keycaps, 2,215 g, 145 x 408 mm and a 4000 mAh battery rated up to 180 hours.

Can Buy or Not called it an outstanding premium 96% that feels great to type on, with a soft, muted sound, weighing about 2.2 kg assembled, though Backspace and Enter sounded a little different from the alphanumeric keys. macReports described a sturdy workhorse for Mac users with a good Bluetooth connection, battery life, an included number pad and thick PBT keycaps, and noted that cost may be high and the stabilizers may need tuning for sound-sensitive users. German outlet connect praised typing quality, aluminum build, connectivity and foam-adjustable acoustics, and listed unfamiliar key positions, partly English legends and no wrist rest in the box as cons, and called the battery only solid.

Can Buy or Not quotes up to 100 hours with the lowest backlight, versus Keychron's 180 hours with it off.
