Wired 96% aluminum Q with a number pad

A wired 96% aluminum Q with number pad, knob, steel plate and double gasket, over 2.3 kg. Reviewers liked build and value; it is very heavy with no adjustable feet.

96% layout Wired Hot-swap QMK/VIA Knob

Our take, based on research

A heavyweight, well-built wired 96% that reviewers praised for feel and customization and marked down for weight and fixed angle. The Q5 Max or Q5 Pro are the wireless alternatives.

Overview

The Q5 squeezes a number pad into a compact 96% (1800-style) layout, in a full CNC aluminum case with steel plate, gasket mount, knob and hot-swap sockets. Keychron lists Gateron G Pro switches on the assembled version, normal-profile double-shot PBT keycaps, QMK with the Keychron Launcher and 2,310 g. It is wired only.

How-To Geek praised the typing feel, durable chassis and customization, and listed cost and the software setup as its cons; it also heard a slight ping from Backspace and Enter when pressed hard, which the foam and double gasket mostly control, and noted there are no angle-adjustment feet. MakeUseOf rated the build and customization highly and called the price competitive for what you get, but said the board is very heavy, that the keyboard pitch is somewhat uncomfortable, and that it has no wrist rest or adjustable feet.

Keychron now lists wireless Q5 versions (Pro, Max, HE and Ultra 8K) if you want to cut the cable.
