Wired 60% aluminum Q with a steel plate

The wired 60% Q: CNC aluminum, steel plate, gasket mount, QMK/VIA and 1.5 kg of weight. No arrow keys or function row; no wireless.

60% layout Wired Hot-swap QMK/VIA

Our take, based on research

A straightforward wired 60% built on the same case as the Q4 Pro. Little independent coverage exists for this exact model, so rely on Keychron's specs and the Q4 Pro review as a guide.

Overview

The Q4 is the smallest wired Q: a 60% layout in a full CNC aluminum case with steel plate and gasket mount, Gateron G Pro switches on the assembled version, normal-profile double-shot PBT keycaps, 1,500 g, QMK and the Keychron Launcher. The 60% layout has no arrow keys or function row, so those live on a layer.

No dedicated third-party review of the wired Q4 turned up. The closest coverage is Try Mech Keys' review of the Q4 Pro, which shares the case and layout: it called the full aluminum case premium, liked the double gasket and polycarbonate plate for typing feel and noted wireless polling is 90 Hz while wired is 1000 Hz. The wired Q4 differs by using a steel plate and no battery, so the feel will be firmer than that review describes.

Pros & Cons

Strengths
  • Compact 60% footprint in a 1,500 g CNC aluminum case
  • Steel plate and gasket mount
  • QMK firmware with the Keychron Launcher web app
  • Hot-swap sockets for 3-pin and 5-pin switches
  • No battery, so nothing to charge or replace
What Could Be Better
  • No arrow keys or function row; those need a layer
  • Wired only
  • No dedicated independent review found; sibling Q4 Pro coverage is used
  • Steel plate feels firmer than the PC plate on the Pro
  • Heavy for a board its size
