Wired southpaw 96% Q with the numpad on the left

A wired left-handed 96% aluminum Q with the number pad on the left, steel plate, double gasket and a knob, about 2.5 kg. Little independent review coverage.

96% layout Wired Hot-swap QMK/VIA Knob

Our take, based on research

A niche but well-specified wired southpaw. Choose it only if the left-hand numpad appeals; independent review coverage for this model is thin.

Overview

The Q12 is the southpaw 96% Q: the number pad sits on the left instead of the right, so right-handed mouse users keep the mouse close and left-handed users get a numpad under the hand they use. It has a full CNC aluminum case with steel plate, gasket mount, hot-swap sockets, a knob, QMK with the Keychron Launcher, Gateron G Pro Red or Brown switches on the assembled version, double-shot PBT keycaps and 2,491 g. It is wired only.

No review of the wired Q12 itself turned up. PC Guide's review of the Q12 HE sets it in context: the Q12 has the most color options, is built on a steel plate (about 300 g heavier than the others) and is wired only, whereas the Q12 Max uses a PC plate with wireless modes. The 12 in the name signifies the southpaw 96% layout.

Expect the typing feel of other steel-plate Q boards: firmer than the PC-plate Pro and Max models.

Pros & Cons

Strengths
  • Southpaw layout puts the number pad on the left, for left-handed users or for a closer mouse
  • CNC aluminum case with steel plate and gasket mount
  • Knob, QMK/VIA and the Keychron Launcher
  • Most color options in the Q12 range (PC Guide)
  • No battery to charge
What Could Be Better
  • Wired only
  • Very heavy at 2,491 g per Keychron; PC Guide says the steel plate adds about 300 g over the other Q12 models
  • Southpaw layout is unfamiliar to most right-handed typists (Digital Chumps on the Q12 HE)
  • Only one sibling review gives context; no review of this exact model found
  • Steel plate feels firmer than the PC-plate versions
