K4, from Keychron's store

The original 96% K4: compact full-size with Bluetooth, Keychron Super switches, double-shot PBT keycaps and a 4000 mAh battery. Little review coverage; this is the least equipped K4.

96% layout Tri-mode Hot-swap QMK/VIA

Our take, based on research

The basic K4. The newer boards add more, but it covers the layout.

Overview

The K4 is the 96% member of the line. Keychron's page lists a 96% ANSI layout, Bluetooth (the spec line lists only Bluetooth for wireless) with a 1000 Hz polling rate, hot-swappable Keychron Super switches on the right version, a tray-mount case that is ABS or ABS with an aluminum frame, double-shot PBT keycaps, a 4000 mAh battery, 22 RGB effects and about 813 g.

No review of the K4 was found. Reviews of other 96% K-series boards are the best guide to the layout: Windows Central described the 96% K4 HE as a stylish board with a comfortable, intuitive layout and excellent acoustics, though that review covers a different switch and case.

This is the most affordable K4. The K4 Pro adds a steel plate and QMK/VIA, the Max adds 2.4 GHz and the HE moves to Hall-effect switches.

Pros & Cons

Strengths

  • Double-shot PBT keycaps
  • Hot-swappable switches on the right version
  • About 813 g, lighter than the Pro and Max
  • Software support through QMK and the Launcher
What Could Be Better
  • No independent review of this exact board was found
  • Bluetooth only for wireless on the maker's spec line
  • Tray-mount design and a basic plastic or aluminum frame
  • Hot-swap is not on every version, so check the product listing
  • No 2.4 GHz, 8 kHz or Hall-effect options
