K2 Max, from Keychron's store

The K2 Max adds 2.4 GHz wireless at 1000 Hz to the 75% K2 and keeps QMK/VIA, PBT keycaps and a 4000 mAh battery. Only sibling-board reviews were found.

75% layout Tri-mode Hot-swap QMK/VIA

Our take, based on research

The sensible K2 for most people who want a dongle. Evidence is mainly from sibling Max boards.

Overview

The K2 Max is the 2.4 GHz version of the K2. Keychron's page lists a 75% layout, 2.4 GHz plus Bluetooth for up to three devices plus wired, 1000 Hz polling, hot-swappable Keychron Super switches (Red, Brown or Banana), a case that is ABS or ABS with aluminum frame (940 g), double-shot PBT keycaps, and a 4000 mAh battery rated for up to 190 hours.

No review of the K2 Max itself could be opened. Reviews of other Max boards show what the platform offers: Tom's Guide found the K10 Max's added sound dampening and tray-mounted steel plate gave a firm, responsive feel with a deeper sound, and MakeUseOf rated the K8 Max highly for customization and build, with layers of foam, PCB stabilizers and a heavy aluminum-frame option, while noting that more advanced users may want something more. A listed pro or con here should be read as platform-level.

Choose it over the K2 Pro for the dongle, and over the K2 Ultra 8K if you want to stay on QMK/VIA and 1000 Hz is enough.

Pros & Cons

Strengths
  • 2.4 GHz at 1000 Hz plus Bluetooth for three devices and wired (maker)
  • QMK/VIA with hot-swap Keychron Super switches
  • Double-shot PBT keycaps
  • 4000 mAh battery rated up to 190 hours
  • Sibling Max boards were praised for foam layers and a firm, damped sound (Tom's Guide, MakeUseOf)
What Could Be Better
  • No dedicated review of the K2 Max could be found, so sound and feel are inferred from sibling Max boards
  • Tray mount feels firmer than a gasket design, per Tom's Guide on the K10 Max
  • 1000 Hz polling, where the Ultra 8K goes to 8000 Hz
  • Keychron's rated battery life drops from 240 hours on older K2 boards to 190 hours
  • Aluminum-frame version is heavier at about 1 kg

Who Is This For?

Perfect For
  • Buyers who want a compact 75% with a USB dongle at a mid price
  • Hybrid work and light-gaming users
  • Typists who want PBT keycaps without buying a set
Maybe Not For
  • Players who need 8 kHz polling (see the K2 Ultra 8K)
  • Buyers who need independent review evidence for this exact board
  • Anyone who wants Hall-effect features (see the K2 HE)
