75% layout Tri-mode Hot-swap QMK/VIA Hall effect

Our take, based on research

A well-reviewed Hall-effect 75% with good sound. Check the case claim before buying if material matters.

Overview

The K2 HE moves the K2 to Gateron Double-Rail magnetic switches. Keychron lists a 75% layout, 2.4 GHz plus Bluetooth plus wired, 1000 Hz polling, Rapid Trigger with adjustable actuation from 0.2 to 3.8 mm, a hot-swappable board that accepts only Keychron's compatible magnetic switches, a 4000 mAh battery rated up to 110 hours, and a weight of 980 g. The Special Edition adds rosewood side panels and rounded OSA keycaps that are not shine-through; the Standard Edition has shine-through OEM keycaps.

Tom's Guide called it a gaming monster that is also a great all-rounder, with Rapid Trigger, last-key priority and multiple actuation points. PC Gamer praised its sturdy build, 966 g weight and a creamy, rattle-free sound from pre-lubed switches. Tom's Hardware praised the Special Edition's gorgeous looks and found the core of the chassis is plastic behind the metal rails, and PC Gamer called the build otherwise plastic, while Keychron's page lists aluminum. How-To Geek found the compact layout cramped for some typists and noted the board slides on smooth desks and its feet have sharp edges.

Compared with the K2 Max, it trades broad mechanical-switch choice for Hall-effect features and a heavier body.

Pros & Cons

Strengths
  • Rapid Trigger, adjustable actuation (0.2 to 3.8 mm) and multi-depth actions
  • 2.4 GHz at 1000 Hz, Bluetooth and wired; Tom's Hardware had no connection problems
  • Rich, creamy sound with no case ping (PC Gamer)
  • Sturdy 980 g body with wood Special Edition option
  • Web-based Launcher for remapping and actuation
What Could Be Better
  • Only compatible linear magnetic switches are supported (maker)
  • Case material is disputed: Keychron lists aluminum, Tom's Hardware and PC Gamer describe a plastic body
  • Feet are weak and can jostle the board on smooth surfaces (How-To Geek)
  • 75% layout is compact for larger hands (How-To Geek)
  • Battery is rated for 110 hours, below non-HE K2 boards
