K2, from Keychron's store

The original 75% K2: a wired and Bluetooth board with a plastic or aluminum-frame case, ABS keycaps and a 4000 mAh battery. The older, simpler design that the Pro, Max, HE and Ultra 8K build on.

75% layout Tri-mode Hot-swap QMK/VIA

Our take, based on research

The plain, original K2. Fine as an affordable start; the K2 Pro or Max are better equipped.

Overview

The K2 is the board the rest of the K2 family descends from. Keychron's page lists a 75% layout with Bluetooth for up to three devices plus wired USB-C, Keychron Super switches (blue, red or brown) on a hot-swappable board, ABS keycaps, a tray-mount case that comes as plastic (663 g) or with aluminum frame bits (794 g), a 4000 mAh battery rated for up to 240 hours, and four-level RGB backlighting. The current version supports QMK firmware and the Launcher web app according to the page.

Independent coverage of this exact version is thin. The Keeblog, which reviewed the K2 with the aluminum bezel, rated it highly and ranked it above the cheaper K6 for a small price step, mainly on build and sound. The boards that followed it, the K2 Pro and K2 Max, add PBT keycaps and steel plates or a 2.4 GHz dongle; this one stays plain.

It suits someone who wants a compact Mac-friendly board with long battery life and does not mind an ABS keycap set and a standard tray-mount feel.

Pros & Cons

Strengths
  • Long rated battery life of up to 240 hours (maker)
  • Hot-swap sockets with Keychron Super switch options
  • Aluminum-frame version adds weight and a firmer feel
  • 75% layout with arrow keys and function row
  • Bluetooth for three devices plus wired USB-C
What Could Be Better
  • ABS keycaps rather than the PBT on the Pro and Max (maker)
  • Bluetooth and wired only, with no 2.4 GHz dongle
  • Tray mount; Tom's Hardware found the tray-mount typing stiff on the sibling K8 Pro
  • Plastic frame feels lighter and more hollow than the aluminum frame (The Keeblog, on the similar K6)
  • Little independent review coverage of this specific version

Who Is This For?
